What are some easy popular rock songs for guitar?
Can someone suggest a song that's easy and popular to play on guitar so I can bring it with me to my lessons? Please don't suggest Pink Floyd, Guns 'N Roses, or any other classic rock bands. Some songs I have worked on are
Shut Me Up -Mindless Self Indulgence
Dammit – Blink 182
Hey There Delilah – Plain White T's
If I don't bring in a song, my teacher will just lecture me about something irrelavent to guitar and my parents pay for that! I'm sick of going to my guitar lessons and not learning anything.
=( I can't go to anyone else because no one else is around and I don't know anyone else experienced in guitar.
So can someone please help me out? Thanks!
I can suggest millions of songs. But I suggest something else. I suggest you stop getting lessons and teach yourself at your own pace. You will get further, faster, and without the hassle. I've heard that lessons don't help at all and it just puts pressure on you and will make you want to give up. Ahh whatever…I can go on with this all day…
How to play the guitar and sing at the same time?
So, I am trying to learn how to play guitar and sing at the same time. I can play the guitar. I can sing. I just can’t put the two together. Like my brain will only coordinate with one or the other separately. Is it best to write the song and sing it first then add the guitar later to it? What is your advice?
Everyone may look at it differently, I dissagree with the comment about doing one conscience and the other not. Practice is key man. When you finally do it right you will notice that you are not concentrating on playing guitar or singing. You will be hearing the combination of both as one final product and you just do adjustments to one or the other to make it fit. If you concentrate on singing your guitar will come out of rhythm a bit. But that is the big word , rhythm. Get that right with your strumming hand and you won’t screw it up. Start with an easy song. Pick one that the rhythm is playing the same on all the chords of the song. And like that other guy said “get your guitar on autopilot” great analogy. Also try to humm with your guitar before you start singing. Notice the way your voice should change with the change of chords.
Practice practice. you will get it.
Guitar Lessons: What should I learn next?
I already know basic open chords, power chords, the arrangement of the notes in the guitar, hammer ons, pull offs, palm muting.
I can pull out these songs:
- Dammit by Blink 182
- Iron Man by Black Sabbath (no solo)
- I love rock & roll by Joan Jett
- Fat lip by Sum 41
- Fist date by Blink 182
- American Idiot by Greenday
- Bad Reputation by Joan Jett
- Beat your heart out by The Distillers
* I've been playing for 2 months
*I know how to read music, I also know how to play flute, zampona( peruvian instrument), and some piano…
learn to keep time, learn to read music, learn charts, learn jazz, learn legato techniques, staccato techs, learn all your modes and pentatonic scales, all major and minor scales. who cares if you know a bunch of songs, get your technique down and those songs will come so easy to you. learn with your ear too.

How to make guitar lessons fun?
Im giving guitar lessons, and I recently have a new student who is the youngest ive had, hes in 2nd grade, and hes learning fine, but it seems he is not having fun while doing so. Im use to older students, and im trying to figure out how to make the lessons enjoyable for the youngster. Any ideas from musicians who teach or know anything about this? I have lessons with him again tomorrow (tuesday). Any tips on fun things to teach or any good techniques would be greatly appreciated.
teach him cords and then let him mix and match his chords when hes plugged in to an amp
just teach the kid what he wants to know
"the best teachers do not teach their students but learn from them"
is there a good site that gives instructions to learn electric guitar?
i just got one and the book i recieved doesnt make much sense to me…
Trust me, you can't really learn from books and websites until you're pretty experienced to know what everything is.
Try learning from friends and tutors.
Are there any places in Toronto that gives free guitar lessons?

is it easier to teach yourself guitar or take lessons?
i want to learn guitar, but i dont know which i should do, get a 'how to' book and teach myself or take lessons, – if you are aa guitar player, i would like your 'professional' [i guess] opinion.
When learning any new skill, taking lessons is almost always the best bet (assuming you have a competent teacher). This is especially true with musical instruments, because without instruction, it is easy to pick up bad habits that can make it more difficult to play or can even cause permanent injury! If money is an issue, at least take a few lessons to start, and then occasional lessons to maintain. Lessons are also a great motivational tool, and can help you stick with an instrument even when it gets frustrating! Happy playing!
Classical guitar lessons online? Also, good for beginners?
Everywhere I look seems to be a random tip on playing. Is there some source that offers many lessons in order of skill level? Like to where I don't miss any knowledge other than practicing? I'm looking for free also, if that's possible. :/
Also, how would classical guitar be for beginners? I'm looking to play soft music from Final Fantasy, Zelda, etc. So electric doesn't sound right although I heard the size of the neck is good for beginners.
