My friend and I play guitar hero and we both recorded us playing a song and now we want to play them side by side and merge them so that we can post it on youtube as, us kind of facing each other, anyone have a solution, i will award 10 points to whoever helps me

I would say it depends on what video editing program you are using.

if i could bring randy rhodes back from the dead he’d be my teacher when it comes to soloing

paul gilbert and buckethead n yngwie malmsteen would be my teachers when it comes to shredding

and for technical skill id have to go with joe satriani
and randy rhoads….and buckethead..and paul gilbert n mix em all up and create a sound so diabolical it will make your soul throw up

It doesnt have to be perfect, just a general idea on the process. i know they are different for each kind of guitar.
im looking for books, websites, etc. i dont mind if it involves carving, patty, stuff like that
ps i want to try and do this alone for a summer project and im doing on a crappy guitar so i dont really care if i mess up.

About two weeks ago I bought a guitar and a book so I could teach myself to play. The only problem is the book only gives me one to three song for each lesson and I feel that that I need a lot more than that, but I don’t have the money right now to take up lessons or buy another book. So my question is does anyone know any websites that has some kind of free guitar lessons?

Order "Guitar for Dummies" from your local library. It’s one of those yellos "Dummies" books that really stand out among the rest! It looks rather simple, even at my age, and you can probably renew it several times before returning it!

A few years ago I got an acoustic guitar (its a Norman B15, old style, beautiful guitar) and I took a beginning class with my school for it. I learned a lot, enough to teach myself songs. This Christmas I got an electric (its a Daisy Rock Rock Candy Atomic Pink for all the girls who know what I’m talking about.) and I never realized how much different and harder it is from the acoustic. I want to teach myself (a. I’m cheap and tight for cash b. I don’t have time and c. I can’t find anyone who is willing to give teach.) I want to learn how to play like punk(like Rise Against, Pennywise etc) and classic rock (Iron Maiden, Metallica etc) music. So does anyone know where there is a pretty good free online lessons? Thanks.

I just got a guitar for christmas and my friend has taught me how to play blowin’ in the wind and he wasn’t. My problem is that I can’t manage to sing at the same time as playing. I don’t really know how to explain but when you play the guitar the beat is slightly different from the beat that you sing but when i sing and play at the same time i can’t really manage to strum at the right beat.
Does any body know any ways i could practice singing and playing at the same time?

Everyone’s given you good advice, but I’d like to add one thing that most don’t consider…

When you’re away from your guitar, it helps to visualize your hands on the guitar neck..playing the chords, etc…and singing the song to yourself in your head.

Or…use your right forearm as the guitar neck, with your left hand forming the chords as you sing.

This is valuable practice which gets your mind used to thinking about two different actions…one involving the mental side of remembering words and lyrics and timing, and the other, remembering the physical aspect of changing chords.

This extra practice time during the day when you can’t be with your guitar helped me immensly when I first started playing.

Be careful…if some observe this "strange behavior," they may try to have you ‘committed!’ LOL

Piano Lessons since I was 7
guitar lessons since I was 8
Solo & Ensemble 1st Division for 3 years straight
In concert, and marching band.
Play soccer
Have 45 hours of community service in 1 year.

sounds good.. keep it going.. you are only a sophomore so you have plenty of time. 2 of our 4 kids went to UM Ann Arbor and it is a fantastic school.. they both loved it.. I would tell you though that you should look at lots of schools and keep your options open. it will help you as you get further into the process. but start your activity sheet going now.. it’s a lot easier to have that list done by senior year.. then you can just edit it down. There is an article in that site that tell you all about putting one together. Good luck and Go Blue!!

If I practice every day and have a lesson once a week, how long will it take for me to become really good? I already know how to read music (I play the violin and the piano), and I already have an acoustic guitar. I know this question should be in the music section, but I wanted to put this question in the adolescent section to see what people my age have to say about this.

Also: Is there anyone here who plays the guitar and is good? How long have you been playing the guitar for? How long did it take you before you became good at the guitar?

Well I’ve been playing SELF-TAUGHT guitar for 2-3 and I’d say I’m decent at guitar. I’ve played piano for about 4 years before I started guitar but guitar is kind of different most teachers nowadays don’t teacher with sheet music like piano they teach in tabs (numbers). I’d say I’m better at guitar because of that and numerous other reasons.

I say if you’re serious about it, depending on maturity, genres of music you want to play, how you are taught and natural ability it won’t be long until you’re at least decent maybe 2 years. I’ve started guitar about 6 months after my friend who takes lessons and I can say with confidence that I can keep up with her so…
