Where do I start for learning how to play guitar?
Alrighty so I want to learn how to play guitar and I’m not sure where to start. Some advice would be amazing and if you know any websites that can teach you without paying please mention them. I’m looking to learn by myself but I guess I could take lessons. I guess I should just get used to picking and just using both hands then learning cords ? I’m not sure.
Thanks =)
PluckandPlayGuitar has free video based lessons for absolute beginners and assume you know nothing or close to nothing.
It takes you step by step through the basic guitar chords one by one. There’s also lesson on guitar scales, techniques and some easy songs to play.

What should i get as my second guitar?
I like metal and rock and i got guitar lessons again after about 2 years. I have been interested in the Washburn X200 Pro-E so if anyone could help me out i would appreciate it.
Its a crappy westfield e1000
How’s your existing guitar? Is it crappy? Did you get the el-cheapo for your first or something decent?
If your existing guitar is good, and you just want a second guitar for variety or vanity, I would suggest something geared differently than your existing guitar.
For example, I started playing metal at first (METALLICA!!!) and played on strat and super-strat style guitars like the Ibanez JEM and RG series. (25.5 neck, a single-coil or two) I recently bought a Les Paul style guitar (24.75 neck, double humbuckers, ToM bridge). Explorers and SGs are also done in this kind of configuration. While Strats are really good for general rock, and super-strats tend to be metal and shred guitars, Les Paul style guitars tend to be geared more for clean-tone play, and the neck tends to (by some people’s taste) accommodate full chord fingering better. Now, plenty of guys (like James Hetfield) play metal on Les Paul style guitars. I’ve recently decided I prefer that neck over strats… I dunno… 20 years and my tastes are changing.
You could also look into something like a semi-hollow… like a lot of jazz guys play… but I’ve seen plenty of rock and punk guys play on them.
Or you could get yourself an acoustic. When I had only two guitars, one was a classical acoustic, because I felt I could duplicate steel-string acoustic just fine on my electric, while the classic acoustic sound was just SO very unique… I use it for all acoustic pieces anymore.
But if your first guitar is a junky learner, then you will probably get something just like it, only better and more expensive. That’s the usual strategy. But if your first guitar is great, I would recommend trying guitars of somewhat different style than your existing one and see if there is more out there for you.

I need helping sweeping on guitar.?
I’ve been playing guitar for about 2 years now and I am VERY good compared to other people who’ve been playing for two years (not to brag but it’s seriously true) and I really like bands like Avenged Sevenfold, who use sweeping throughout a lot of their guitar solos. I’m a very busy person but guitar isn’t just a hobby for me anymore, it’s something I’m attached to. I don’t know much about arpeggios and I think that has something to do with sweeping so can someone please help me.
I’ve basically mastered the first part of this lesson: http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/lessons/guitar_techniques/sweep_picking.html which was quite easy, but later on in the lesson it gets harder.
Please give an explanation and even a video if you want to. Thank you very much!
Hello there,
That is not a bad lesson on sweep picking. Since you are having trouble, I will post a link to another lesson. There is a good one at Youtube that may help you.

What is the best guitar instruction DVD to learn metal shred from?
…like alexi laiho, chris impellitteri, john petrucci, dime bag etc. I know that there may not be a single "best one" but I just want to know which one has yielded the most progression. Thanks!
check metal method-speed lives from michael angelo batio
or the song no boundaries
there is a lot of shredding to do (sweeps etc.)
and of course check tutorials about economy picking.

How do I learn how to play acoustic guitar?
I’m really busy all the time and I don’t think my parents would be willing to pay for lessons. So what is an easy way to learn online?
I am 12 years old and have never played guitar before.
I don’t even know the notes, or tabs, or whatever.
I need to start from scratch.
I tried youtube but when i click on a video and they’re like okay start with the B string or whatever and I’m just like wtf?
Haha please help
I really want to learn.
well you should start with just learning the strings they go in order from thickest to thinnest:
E – thickest string
A
G
D
B
e – thinnest string
Once you learn this you should just start by holding down frets and listening to the notes. Frets are the spaces in between that you hold on to make sounds.
After you start to get better at spreding out your fingers you can go on a website like ultimate-guitar.com and type in any song you want for tabs. Tabs are an easier way of learning a song if you can’t read notes. I taught myself to play the guitar like you want to and i started out this way. Now i just play and learn songs by ear. Once you get better you might be able to do that but now just choose a song and looks at tabs.
When you find tabs fo a song you want try to make sure that, that tabs is 4-5 stars. The more stars it has (only up to 5) the better the tabs sound. Tabs just show you which frets to hold down.
For example (these are just randome notes) :
E-1–3-
A-1–3-
G-3–5-
D——–
B——–
e———
This just tells you that you have to hold down the first fret on the E and A string and the 3 fret on the G string at the same time. The — means to wait a second and then hold the third fret on the E and A and the fifth on the G. The more — you have the longer you wait till you hit the next note. Just try to listen to the guitar in a song then read the tabs and this will all make sence.
I hope this helped. If you need an eazy song to play on the accoustic you can try to learn "Good Riddence" by Green Day
I want to learn how to play the guitar?
ive played the piano for 8 years, im pretty good. i wanna learn how to play the acoustic guitar now, but im clueless. like, completely clueless. can i get a good guitar for $200 or under? i dont really want to take lessons, because it will cost more money, but i wanna learn guitar really badly. is it hard to learn on your own? sorry i asked like a million questions but i am so clueless..
If you are just starting out, First Act, makes a decent, not great guitar. They are okay for a starter guitar and they are not expensive. A good guitar is going to cost a little, but I found it was worth it. I love my acoustic. It is a tough instrument to self teach with the cords, so take it slow and learn the basic fingering. That is what I did. Since you have music in your background it will help because you know how some things are supposed to sound. Guitar music is in treble clef so, if you can read that already you are off to a good start. Get some beginner books and/or dvds. They can help.
Playing guitar well in a matter of 5 months? And difference between solo and performance guitars?
I’ve started my acoustic guitar lessons this month because I want to volunteer myself to play for the drama team of my school. (Its always pianos and violins so its a good chance for guitarists to take the audition)
The audition probably starts around March or April.
The lessons start weekly and I’m yet to have my own guitar.
Question is, considering I go for my lessons for 45 minutes and play/practice everyday, will I be able to play very well to be qualified for the drama team in maybe… 5 or 6 months time? Next year’s my last year in my school so thats the only year I have to join the team.
Also, my tutor told me solo guitars and performance guitars are different since I wanted to play in front of the crowd.
Is that true? If so, how can I tell the difference between solo and performance guitars since I’m about to buy myself one in another week
I’d recommend a nice Ibanez or Takamine acoustic electric guitar. These can be played acoustically (not plugged into an amplifier) but also have a pickup in the bridge (where the strings are attached to the body of the guitar), which allows them to be plugged into an amplifier. You can probably get a decent one for around $200 or less (although you definitely get what you pay for if you know what I mean).
As far as playing ability after 5 months, it really depends on the person. Some people are just musically gifted and pick things up quickly and hear the music. I’ve been playing since I was 7 (over 30 years) and still don’t consider myself very good, but I do play and sing in church every Sunday. Learning chords is definitely the best place to start. You just need to get your fingers used to the various chord shapes and get a good strumming rhythm going. You’ll want an acoustic electric guitar for that. Playing lead (solos) usually requires much more training and understanding of the various scales and modes. Have you studied music theory in your piano or violin training? That would certainly help.
