you don’t know how to play acoustic?

I got an electric guitar for Christmas and I’ve wanted to learn guitar for a few years but haven’t yet. I don’t know how to play acoustic but I’m going to start taking lessons on electric soon. Will this be easy? Or at least a reasonable difficulty? Thanks!

Electric is easier on the fingers than acoustic, and you have more leeway on tone-alternation techniques like bends, vibrato, and slides.

Many people (and there is some wisdom to this) say that the ONLY way to learn is to learn on an acoustic first. This is because the acoustic is always physically more difficult to play. It requires more hand strength and precision to produce good tone, so if you can play adequately on an acoustic, the electric feels like I HAVE BEEN SET FREE!!! FREEEEEE!!!!!

But if you don’t like acoustic music, just go ahead and start on the electric.

That said… No, it won’t be easy. You will be constantly frustrated. Your fingers will be REALLY sore in the beginning (that passes quickly) and you will be made to do exercises that will seem PHYSICALLY IMPOSSIBLE at first. It isn’t easy! HOWEVER, any idiot can learn the guitar fairly well if they DON’T GIVE UP. The first few months will seem like you SUCK and can’t do ANYTHING! But that passes, and you’ll feel REALLY good about your ability in a year (if you keep up the lessons). And then you will start to tackle some advanced techniques and feel like I’LL NEVER BE ABLE TO DO THIS all over again. And it too, will pass if you STICK WITH IT.

At many points, you will overcame obstacles that you thought were IMPOSSIBLE at first. It IS hard, but ANY IDIOT (like ME!!!) can do it if they stick with it.

have been playing piano for 5 years and so far am still not very good. I have started to listen to more classic rock and stuff and I think guitar would be fun. We have 3 guitars at my house and my piano teacher also teaches guitar. Should I?

Well if you want to then go for it. After 5 years you have to at least know something about the piano, and piano goes hand in hand with guitar. Have fun. Tip to you, buy a 10watt marshall amp. they’re 69 bucks, but OMG they sound incredible. I’d play that 10 watt way more than my 200 watt behringer.

i would like to harmonize her part, or play something different.
What chords could i play while she plays B flat, f, and e flat?

The easiest way to complement a friend is to use a capo and play the same chord in a different position. In fact if you learn the CAGED capo method, you can easily do this for whole songs. I don’t have time to get into that, but to answer your specific question, here are some options for you:

Bb = capo 1 A or capo 3 G
F = capo 1 E or capo 3 D
Eb = capo 1 D or capo 3 C

There is also a completely separate method for an electric guitar to complement an acoustic guitar using 3 string chords, but from your question, I don’t think that’s what you’re going for. If you’re interested in learning more about the capo system, I teach it in my "Essentials" series on my site.

one lesson the guy picked every note. on a cover vid the guy hammered on and pulled off alot of the notes. i was jw what one is the correct way the song is played. I personaly hammer on and pull off cus it feels better to me.

Just play it how the guy does cause it might be confusing to you later on.

I would like to play Indian songs on guitar. What is the best site which list best hindi guitar songs with video lessons to learn these songs.

If you are a beginner the best would be to get a teacher who could get you started with few songs. There are various sites where you can find the chords like indianguitartabs, guitargaga, rhythemraga etc… You can find the videos at youtube but there is only one I know where the chords and video lessons are available together.

There are lots of great websites and youtube videos for learning guitar. But u have to stay away from those videos, for they can not teach u from the beginning to the
end. While some have value, a lot of those really don’t have much substance. If a
guitar book with video lessons is supposed to be helpful for u, such as jamorama.
It teachers learners according to their levels, offering pictures and videos and
explaining very clearly. U can have a look at of it. Good luck!

I am a beginner without lessons and I just want to have a fun time playing some popular songs. My favorite to play is Good Riddance by Green Day so anything similar would help. Thanks!

The Beatles are always classic. Try "Hide Your Love Away", "Hard Days Night", "Ticket to Ride" and most of their other songs. They are always crowd pleasers too; ideal for playing to friends, family, around the campfire or as a solo act in a small coffee shop. Also recommeded: CCR. "Have You Ever Seen the Rain" is another crowd pleaser. Most pop songs work too. Just learn the chords behind them. "Jessie’s Girl", "Your Love", "Melt With You" and "Turning Japanese" are all great examples of pop songs you can just strum the chords to and sing. They are also fairly easy and a great way to build your repitoire.

listen and listen good you are not going to learn the guitar or any other instrument for free just go to a music store pick up a how to play guitar book with a dvd or whatever you wanna learn and pay for it that way you know your getting the right information
