Any help would be so greatly appreciated, thanks so much!!!!
ughh yahoo filled the ends in with ellipses but i left the link above if you want to view it that way… thanks again

haha nice situation. well if you see there are six lines with numbers. each one of those is one measure.each line represents a string. the bottom most line in the measure is the thickest string on the guitar. each number on the line represent the fret number it is on. so in the chorus it goes:
————————————–…
————————————–…
————————————–…
—–6——-10—–11—-11—–11 2x’s
—–6——-10—–11——–11–
-4–4—8—8—9–9—9———–
that means you strum 4 on the thickest string, then you strum a chord that is a 4 on the thickest string, then a 6 on the second thickest string, and 6 on the next thickest string and so on and so forth. and to the right of all that it says 2x’s. that means to do it 2 times.
in the interlude and solo its the same thing. there is only one place i cant help you. i have never seen it say strum on a tab before, and i have been playing for about 2 and a half years. so no help there.

hope this helped

alright, I’m 15 and i have been playing guitar for about 11 months and i learned by myself. i am really good (everyone says i was born to play guitar) and I’m in a band. but our band is going to start recording soon so i wanted to get a FBV pedal. but if i buy that, i won’t be able to afford lessons. i really want lessons though. I’ve always wanted them. Do you think i should get lessons. I kind of have trouble making solos but i have already made 3 kick ass songs.

heres me playing eruption by van halen

i would post 1 of my songs that i made, but my mom lost the charger
*she lost the camera charger

You should definitely get lessons. You are already very talented and lessons will help you expand your knowledge. I started playing at about 10 and played for quite awhile before taking lessons. Like you I was already in a band and considered to be a very good player. I then took lessons for a few months and immediately became much better than I had already been. I more than doubled my ability in a very short time. Later on, after high school, I took several music courses at the local community college and began taking lessons with another local teacher and once again more than doubled my knowledge. After that I decided to make a career out of playing and I attended the famous Guitar Institute of Technology in Los Angeles. I was able to study with some of the best guitarists in the world and meet so many great musicians like Steve Vai and Eric Johnson, to name just a few. I, once again, More than doubled all of my previous knowledge and I now make a good living playing and teaching guitar. Check out my you tube link to see my playing and I think you will agree that lessons are one of the best things you can do to better yourself. Take the opportunity now to improve your abilities. You will be able to buy gear later

i am 15 and have been playing guitar for almost 11 months and im pretty good. i just bought a new guitar and amp and i am playing lead in a band. i can play really fast solos and i know a lot of techniques like
-tapping
-hammer ons & pull offs
-tremolo picking
-pinch harmonics
and lots more

i dont know like all the penetonic scales, and how to play in a certain key. i feel that sometimes im like illiterate when it comes to guitarr knowledge. do you think i should get lessons, if so, hhat should i learn from it.

lessons are a lot of money. and judging by your knowledge of guitar techniques so far i wouldn’t advise you to waste your money. you can watch free lessons on youtube, many of them are very good and i’m pretty sure most of them teach pentatonic scales and the likes. you could buy a book in any instrument shop or in good bookshops or even the library which goes through scales. your right to feel illiterate now but when you really learn the scales and what keys to play in your ability to write your own songs will increase so much.
also check out gibson.com. they have arlon roth specially giving lessons and i think he goes through scales. i wouldn’t be too sure but have a look if ya like.

I’ve been playing guitar for about 2 years now and I am VERY good compared to other people who’ve been playing for two years (not to brag but it’s seriously true) and I really like bands like Avenged Sevenfold, who use sweeping throughout a lot of their guitar solos. I’m a very busy person but guitar isn’t just a hobby for me anymore, it’s something I’m attached to. I don’t know much about arpeggios and I think that has something to do with sweeping so can someone please help me.

I’ve basically mastered the first part of this lesson: http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/lessons/guitar_techniques/sweep_picking.html which was quite easy, but later on in the lesson it gets harder.

Please give an explanation and even a video if you want to. Thank you very much!

Hello there,

That is not a bad lesson on sweep picking. Since you are having trouble, I will post a link to another lesson. There is a good one at Youtube that may help you.

Later,

I found the link. It took a while.

Give this a try; it may help.

I’ve started my acoustic guitar lessons this month because I want to volunteer myself to play for the drama team of my school. (Its always pianos and violins so its a good chance for guitarists to take the audition)
The audition probably starts around March or April.
The lessons start weekly and I’m yet to have my own guitar.

Question is, considering I go for my lessons for 45 minutes and play/practice everyday, will I be able to play very well to be qualified for the drama team in maybe… 5 or 6 months time? Next year’s my last year in my school so thats the only year I have to join the team.

Also, my tutor told me solo guitars and performance guitars are different since I wanted to play in front of the crowd.
Is that true? If so, how can I tell the difference between solo and performance guitars since I’m about to buy myself one in another week

I’d recommend a nice Ibanez or Takamine acoustic electric guitar. These can be played acoustically (not plugged into an amplifier) but also have a pickup in the bridge (where the strings are attached to the body of the guitar), which allows them to be plugged into an amplifier. You can probably get a decent one for around $200 or less (although you definitely get what you pay for if you know what I mean).

As far as playing ability after 5 months, it really depends on the person. Some people are just musically gifted and pick things up quickly and hear the music. I’ve been playing since I was 7 (over 30 years) and still don’t consider myself very good, but I do play and sing in church every Sunday. Learning chords is definitely the best place to start. You just need to get your fingers used to the various chord shapes and get a good strumming rhythm going. You’ll want an acoustic electric guitar for that. Playing lead (solos) usually requires much more training and understanding of the various scales and modes. Have you studied music theory in your piano or violin training? That would certainly help.

So i am 14, and have owned a guitar since i was 10. I have played it seriously (every day) since this time last year and am playing a lot of lead guitar.
I use a metronome every day, and i also ear-train alot by working out my favourite songs for myself.
Well where do i go from here? I watch loads of Gilbert, Satriani, Petrucci, Marty Friedman and stuff like that… guitar lessons online.
Any more real helpful guitar lessons on youtube (don’t say shred academy. None of the teachers have any melody to their shred).

Also am i doing the right thing? i sometimes solo over sogs, but only fast-paced blues soloing like if i play over Whitesnake or stuff.

and is there a way to learn more theory (i know not every guitar player with a good success knows theory, but Eddie Van Halen, Paul Gilbert, Steve Vai, Satch and more all know it) without boggling my mind? I love pentatonic soloing and the blues scale and i do think i can make a career as a shredder without knowing every other scale there is.

Advice please?
an yes i already sit byt he TV and work out the advertising jingles. so no1 suggest that.

yes sir you are doing the right thing, read up on theory as well thts how they got so good, please buy a book about theory you really need to read and understand that if you want to be a truly successful musician

if you know any websites that have tabs and lessons for 12 stringed guitars, please answer as well.. =D

They’re played the same way. The extra six strings are just small strings placed directly below the main 6, and are tuned to the same pitch.

You fret both strings at once. It’s a little harder to play well, but it isn’t bad. A lot of people use it for strumming material mainly. You don’t need tabs for it….it will play the same material, just with more harmonic content.

represent the 6 strings, with the E A being at the thickest strings

the numbers represent the fret, so if it says –10– you play the 10th fret

when it goes
E—–16——–16——-16—-14—-1…
B–14—-14–14—-14-14—-14—-14–…
G————————————-…
D————————————-…
A————————————-…
E————————————-…

you play fret 14, on B string, then fret 16 on E string

if the two numbers are directly above each other, like below, they are played at the same time
E–14—————————–…
B–14——————————-…
G————————————-…
D————————————-…
A————————————-…
E————————————-…
you play the two notes

and
E—–6/7—–

means that instead of playing the notes individually, you slide across from fret 6 to 7

finally —12 (x7) means you play fret 12 seven times

hope that helps and sorry if it doesn’t
