It definitely is not easy though, there is tons of practice involved and there is tons of stuff to master. For you, I would recommend a Martin acoustic guitar. Definitely take up guitar. If you bought a Fender Stratocaster, you'd be able to play it for 30 years, and it would just get better with age. Stay away from the gimmicky guitars that the kids play today. You could buy a beginners book and then just buy song books and you'll get good really fast. I got a poster with about 100 different chords on it and if you just learn 2 or 3 a day you'll be great.
