Should I take guitar lessons?

Today I got a classical guitar for Christmas. Everyone that I know that plays says that it is so easy without lessons and they caught on right away. All day I have been looking at pluckandplayguitar.com for lessons, but I am having serious problems with constantly holding the strings down hard enough, and with my fingers touching the wrong strings. Say I’m holding down the A string with my index finger, my index finger is always touching the D string also! I also am not getting the hang of tuning. Should I just keep practicing by myself? Or should I take real lessons?

First of all, catching on "right away" is often a lie, and even if it’s not… less than a day?!? Really?

Give yourself some time. ESPECIALLY if you decide to not take lessons.

I would recommend lessons AT LEAST early on, to get the basics down.

    point your elbow away from your body, that should give you more leverage when fretting the strings. fat fingering comes with practice. lessons ?? might help might not depends on the instructor and how badly you want to play.

    Real lessons would probably help, along with lots of practice. You could try some different online lessons, along with lots of practice. http://www.learnonlineguitar.info
