How to connect Guitar Hero 5 controller to PS3?

I’m having a dim moment and cannot work out how to connect this thing. I followed the instructions exactly I think and the guitar just flashes and then turns off after a minute. If anyone has had a similar problem, please help!

First of all put batteries in the guitar. Then plug in your receiver. After that press the PlayStation button on the guitar and it should turn on.

    dont you press the button on the guitar and the reciver at the same time?
