I learned from guitar.about.com about 4 years ago. It's a good site and should get you started with everything you need to know!

On the left-hand side of the screen, under the section Learn Guitar, click on Beginner Guitar Lessons. On that page, scroll down and click on The Beginners Guide to Playing Guitar.

I use this site for all of the articles on practicing and such, in addition to private lessons.
