Are guitar lessons worth it for someone who already knows quite a bit about playing guitar?

Before, I just learned by song, and then when a new technique came up, I went on youtube, but now, I’m really trying to get into making my own stuff, and without structure, I’m finding it hard to come up with anything, so I was wondering.
Should I get guitar lessons, or should I just manage by myself?

guitar lessons are nice for beginners, but if you have already managed to learn a lot on your own, then I would not waste the money on it. As for songwriting it takes a very long time to get down, and its 99% emotion, not theory, which is something no guitar instructor can teach you.

    You can do it by yourself. I’ve only been playing 1 year but I come up with my own songs out of thin air :D

    The late great Randy Rhoads would often seek out classical guitar tutors for lessons while on tour with Ozzy Osbourne. He certainly knew a few things about guitar, but he knew there was more out there to learn.

    There is never a point where you stop learning new things in life. It’s the same with the guitar. If you have the time and will to learn new things then I highly suggest you seek guitar lessons.

    A sure way to find someone who knows more than you is to pick a different genre of music that you may not be used to and find an instructor who teaches it. Rhoads may have been in a hard rock band, but he could draw upon the classical world to deliver something new and unique.

    I’m pretty amazed of what I can still learn on a daily basis and I’ve played guitar for over 25 years.

    I think so, absolutely. A teacher can give you a fresh perspective on your playing and jog your brain, get you thinking differently. If you’ve been stuck on a plateau for awhile its always a good idea to play with someone who’s a little bit better than you are, so they challenge you to grow and jumpstart your skills.
