Guitar – how can i convice my parents?
Now, i used to take guitar lessons, but i never practiced, and i stopped. I didnt stop taking them cause i never practiced – i just didnt really like my teacher, because he was asking me to learn half of a Nirvana song by a week. But ever since, ive been hearing sick guitar solos and plays by great musicians who in most cases play in the Metal bands i listen to. Ive tried to ask convince my parents to buy me an electric guitar because from what i read, most of them are self-taught. I told that to my parents too, but they said it was just a fluke. Now i really wanna get an electric guitar and learn how to play metal (i am aware that its not gonna work right away), but first i have to convince my parents to buy me one. Now, i've tried, but never worked. Can anyone help me?
Thanks

You poor baby! My guitar teacher made me spend weeks learning a whole bunch of folk garbage (and we are not talking "cool" folk garbage) before he'd even consent to showing me the chords to a simple rock song, much less a GOOD rock song. YOU try suffering through weeks of "Michael Row The Boat Ashore"!
If you were my kid I would'nt buy you a guitar either. God forbid your next teacher tells you to learn something off of the first Ramones album by the end of the day!

Could you just buy it yourself? or ask your parents to give you extra money, for doing extra chores or washing their cars or something? Or offer to pay for half of it and they'll probably realize how serious you are about it.

Keep asking. They probably think you'll give it up, like with the other lessons… Just show how much you want it.

Well I've never taken a lesson and I taught myself how to play guitar over the past year. I got my first electric this past Christmas and because I played my acoustic nearly everyday last year, my parents got me the electric. Just try to practice without the electric and show them that you're willing to teach yourself.

Buy it yourself! I got a busboy job and worked a whole Summer to buy my first bass and amp.
If you pay for it yourself then you will appreciate it – otherwise it'll just collect dust.

Take Ian Anderson's advice :~
"If, like my daughter, you are taken by the urge to try a musical instrument, whether by inclination or demand, beg, steal or borrow the object of your tentative affection. Don't, for goodness' sake actually buy one or worse, let your parents buy it for you: (Then you really are going to have to have to play the damn thing, whatever it is)."

tell them you're really talent and you can become a great guitarist.
you can say its better then computer and TV
show them you can play beautiful songs on the acoustic guitar (show them songs from the 70's like hotel california) and if they going to like it they will buy an electric guitar

So you never practiced…thats now going to help the situation. If you are willing to teach yourself, tell them that and show them that you have responsability and your able to take time and practice…do research and stuff like that and then when you have done more independant ask them again…explaining how you are able to teach yourself
Good Luck
