should i get guitar lessons or not?

i am 15 and have been playing guitar for almost 11 months and im pretty good. i just bought a new guitar and amp and i am playing lead in a band. i can play really fast solos and i know a lot of techniques like
-tapping
-hammer ons & pull offs
-tremolo picking
-pinch harmonics
and lots more

i dont know like all the penetonic scales, and how to play in a certain key. i feel that sometimes im like illiterate when it comes to guitarr knowledge. do you think i should get lessons, if so, hhat should i learn from it.

lessons are a lot of money. and judging by your knowledge of guitar techniques so far i wouldn’t advise you to waste your money. you can watch free lessons on youtube, many of them are very good and i’m pretty sure most of them teach pentatonic scales and the likes. you could buy a book in any instrument shop or in good bookshops or even the library which goes through scales. your right to feel illiterate now but when you really learn the scales and what keys to play in your ability to write your own songs will increase so much.
also check out gibson.com. they have arlon roth specially giving lessons and i think he goes through scales. i wouldn’t be too sure but have a look if ya like.

    I am a guitar teacher. I can tell you know that if you want to get good you will either need lessons, or go to school for music theory. Playing fast leads is not all there is to being good. Understanding what you are doing is the most important part. You need to learn Major, minor, and pentatonic scales. Learn how to build chords from these scales, and how to change key’s with them. All song’s are built from scales, either a single scale, or a mixture of a few. The rhythm’s, and leads are played from these scale so if you ever want to do anything besides copy someone else’s song from guitar tabulator then take some lessons.

    Shop around to find that really good teacher. It will be worth the money.
    Be sure that the teacher is and has produced top students.
    If you are not happy with a teacher after a few lessons, find another.

    Lessons will definitely help you improve your abilities much faster than you can on your own. You sound like a great student already and with the right teacher I am sure you will progress at very advanced rate. Pentatonic scales are only one type of scale there are also the standard major and minor scales, harmonic and melodic minor scales, diminished and whole tone scales, Ionian, Dorian Phrygian Lydian, Mixolydian, Aeolian, and Locrian modes, not to mention all of the various arpeggios. Then there are more advanced techniques including sweep picking, phrasing, travis picking, legato, double stop bends, and so much more. You will also want to learn about key signatures, the concepts of relative major and minor, chord construction, tertiary harmony, concepts of harmony and theory.
    You are wise to express interest in learning more about music in general and guitar specifically. When I was your age I faced the same problems, I was fairly advanced in playing for my age (I started when I was about 10) I had taken guitar in school and was already better than the teacher (his words not mine) I was frustrated with the lack of advanced music instruction available in school. By the time I was 17 I had taken the proficiency exam and graduated and started attending a local community college to study music. I also started lessons with one of the best teachers around and between the two I really learned so much more than I ever knew before. But I did not stop there. I continued in college and later attended Guitar Institute of Technology in Los Angeles where I was once again exposed to many great teachers and so much advanced knowledge and fantastic players that my own abilities once again grew exponentially. I now make a living teaching and playing guitar and it all started with wanting to better myself and not be musically "illiterate".
    I applaud your ambition and wish you the best of luck. Learn all you can learn!
