How much distortion do YOU play guitar with?

And what style do you play. For me, I use 50% of the gain available to me. Anymore and its way too thick and undefined, any less and notes dont ring out clearly and certain techniques become impossible.
Oh yea I forgot to mention I play metal.

20 to 40% rarely 50%. Yeah above that & chords become muddy & hard to tell one chord apart from the next. Only single notes seem to sound good at high gain.

Ehh it depends. I usually mess around with what I have. I have a really sh*tty set up at my house (just practice amps and a digitech rp50), but when i'm out jamming on like a crate half stack or something i usually put the treble at like 8, middle at like 6, and bass at around 8 (out of ten) and then turn the gain all the way up. from there i'll palm mute the low e string and play really thick quarter notes like *chug chug chug chug* over and over and move the gain around until it's not too sloppy, but not too pansy lol.

    hope that helps
