what equipment is needed to play bass guitar in a band?

i just started playing bass and eventually want to play in a rock band. what equipment do i need? (ex. types of pedals,etc) .

Minimum:

A bass guitar that is setup well (intonation set correctly and strings set low enough to play comfortably)
An amp with 100 watts +
A cable to plug the bass into the amp
Marginal talent

Everything above that is just a matter or preference. You’ll get that in time. Experiment with different pedals and see which ones you think will add to your band’s sound (not distract from it). Most bass players don’t use pedals very much or at all.

You will probably want a tuner. Tuning a bass by ear is tricky. And tuning, in general, is much quicker and easier with a tuner.

    Honestly, the effects you’re working with really depend on the kind of music you want to play bass for: a death metal garage band has a different sound than a contemporary Christian worship band, and would require different effects. The important thing to remember is that all of the effects, amps and axes in the world come second to your ability to play: a skilled player can get by doing more with less. Learn your chords, scales, and meter and you can work out effects when you meet up with some other musicians.
