What is a good way to learn to play the Acoustic Guitar?

Well, I really would like to learn the Acoustic Guitar. I am 15 years old, I have one, but I can’t seem to be able to manage and play it. What is a good way to learn to play, I would like to learn a song, and play it for my girlfriend as a Birthday present, and just a good way to do something with my time. There a good set of cd’s to buy? Thanks :)

Like it was said before, you can get a book to teach you how to play, but I find that I’m more of a visual learner; I like to be able to see how to do it in real time, or on a video.

A great way to learn without paying a penny is watching instructional videos on YouTube. There are two people named Marty Shwartz and Siggi Martens who post great instructionals, whether it be how to learn any certain song, how to do scales or play riffs. I definitely suggest checking out their videos!

I’ve been playing for years, and I love it. The absolute BEST way to learn, in my opinion, is to find some friends or family who play guitar, and ask them to help you out. Start a jam session with them, and start learning chords and progressions with their help. You’ll be able to pick it up very fast with their help, I’m sure!

Hope you can manage to impress your lady-friend! ;)
