guitar lessons metal, rock, screamo?

i always watch guitar covers on you tube for songs from bands like escape the fate, bring me the horizon and slipknot and i am biggining to play guitar, i wanna know if they learn to play those songs so well with just tabs and playing or if they took paid lessons which helped them play?

Unless you have the right kind of teacher to teach you fast (a friend), the lessons will be drug out to keep you coming for more. If you don’t have a freind that is a good teacher, go ahead and do it abit, but show them what you want to know. Say, "teach me this song" and a long the way of a few, you will learn different chord strucures and so on. Remember "tab" is someobodies interpretation, so is not necessarily right and some are very wrong. Same with the covers. I learned from ear before tab was around. Play lick and listen. Hum back, find notes, redo over and over. I only use tab to support the ear I use. Very important to new players- make sure your instrument is easy on you. smooth action. easier it is, more you want to play, more you will learn. i’m and old 45 year old, and only recognize slipknot and they do the drop D tuning all turned down to C or so. Lots easier to play and on fingers too, so thats a good thing.

    Some people might take lessons, others might not. I first learned with tabs, but eventually learned to read music. Haven’t taken any lessons and I’m pretty decent at guitar (I prefer drums). I would recommend getting lessons if you want to be really good.

    I taught myself by getting some easy songs with standard chords and learned most of the basic chords, then just listened to music that i had tabs for and started practicing. everybody’s different:)

    little of both… I do covers on youtube which people tell me are good and I"m a completely self-taught bassist. oh and BMTH is the worst example you could have possible given for rock.

    slipknot took lessons aka mick thomson and now he gives lessons, others may or may have not taken lessons i learned by tabs at first then i developed an ear for it and now when i read someones tabs n i play it i can adjust where other people messed up on

    Yeah you should definitely learn the basics or you’ll suffer a few years down the line and have to start over again. Take a look at this site, its what i used to learn because i couldn’t afford lessons. He’s actually a guitar teacher in person aswell but give a full lesson index online for free; http://www.justinguitar.com
